The beauty in the beast is the best way to describe my influences as an artist. Artwork surrounding visually appealing subject matter is the overstatement of the century. The acceptance, and even glorification, of imperfections, destruction, and the ugly, is the key to opening your eyes, and heart, to the world around you.
Dismantling the common perception of what is beautiful, and what is not, is what I strive to do with my artwork. Through drawings and paintings created with a wide variety of media in a style influenced by pop art, graffiti, and typography, if I can make the viewer look at a car crash and see its beauty, removed from any context and void of all why's, then I have achieved my goal.
Intrigued by psychological disturbances, much of my artwork surrounds the unspoken. As someone who has been to the "dark side" and back, I see no reason to adhere to the common practice of forgetting the parts of the past that aren't marked by smiling photographs and bright momentos. Our scars, although hidden, are part of who we are.
